The study contemplates the genesis of asbestos, complaints made by experts, workers and victims' organizations for decades for its control and prohibition, and some of the obstacles that the subjects overcame in order to regulate it. Two places of enunciation stand out that allow us to analyze the resistant policy against asbestos: on the one hand, the complaints of the affected workers and the struggles of the people who inhabited spaces degraded by the material. Este artículo tiene por objetivo proponer un análisis contextual de las luchas protagonizadas por sujetos sociales en la defensa del derecho a la vida, frente al uso de materiales cancerígenos. En el estudio se contempla la génesis del asbesto, las denuncias hechas por expertos, trabajadores y organizaciones de víctimas por décadas para su control y prohibición, y algunos de los tropiezos que sortearon los sujetos para su regulación. Sobresalen dos lugares de enunciación que permiten analizar la política resistente contra el asbesto: por un lado, las denuncias de los trabajadores afectados y las luchas de las personas que habitaron espacios degradados por el material. En Colombia, merece reconocimiento el protagonismo de Ana Cecilia Niño, activista y víctima del material, en la lucha por su prohibición.
