There are several determining factors that influence the development, growth, and performance of SOUs, which are classified into three groups: (i) those related to the inventor and the entrepreneurial team, (ii) those related to the firm itself, and (iii) those inherent to the technology to be exploited. The National University of the Litoral (UNL) is a public institution that carries out teaching, research, and knowledge transfer activities. Since 1985, it has developed various mechanisms to stimulate technological linkage. These mechanisms, together with political guidelines to support the creation of SOUs embodied in successive strategic plans, have allowed the UNL to currently have six active SOUs. This work analyzes, with an exploratory approach, the contribution of the UNL to the factors that determine the development, growth, and performance of SOUs, based on the description of the actions that promote their creation. It is concluded that the UNL contributes to generating the conditions for the creation of SOUs in the determining factors that have to do with both the inventor and the team, as well as with the firm and the technology. Las spin offs universitarias (SOUs) son un mecanismo de transferencia de conocimiento al medio productivo que ha tomado mayor visibilidad en las últimas décadas, debido al éxito de numerosas compañías que surgieron a partir de la investigación de instituciones públicas. Existen una serie de factores determinantes que influyen en el desarrollo, crecimiento y performance de las SOU, que se clasifican en tres grupos: i) los relacionados con el inventor y el equipo emprendedor, ii) los que tienen que ver con la firma propiamente dicha y ii) los inherentes con la tecnología a explotar. La Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL) es una institución pública que lleva adelante actividades de docencia, investigación y transferencia al medio. Desde el año 1985 ha desarrollado diversos mecanismos para el estímulo de la vinculación tecnológica. Estos mecanismos, junto con lineamientos políticos de apoyo a la creación de SOU plasmados en sucesivos planes estratégicos, han permitido que la UNL cuente hoy con seis SOUs en actividad. En el presente trabajo se analiza, con un enfoque exploratorio, la contribución de la UNL a los factores que determinan el desarrollo, crecimiento y performance de las SOU, a partir de la descripción de las acciones que fomentan su creación. Se concluye que la UNL contribuye a generar las condiciones para la creación de SOUs en los factores determinantes que tienen que ver tanto con el inventor y el equipo, como con la firma y con la tecnología.
