Likewise, the guarantee offered by the drainage tunnels belonging to the large reservoir works is of appreciable importance. In all these cases it is necessary to have a previous knowledge of the area chosen for such works, and from the geological considerations that the study provides, the necessary defense calculations will be made to obtain the required stability. These safety works consist, mainly, in the lining of the tunnel according to the petrographic and tectonic characteristics of the section crossed. It should be taken into account that in most cases it is not possible to choose the place to drill, demanding, due to the force of circumstances, a place that is not always the most suitable. All this has repercussions on the cost of the works to be constructed. La técnica moderna exige que en el proyecto de construcción de túneles se tenga en cuenta el estudio geológico de la región que se deba perforar, con el objeto de ajustar las obras al máximo de seguridad, sobre todo, si. se trata de construcciones de vías de comunicación. Igualmente, tiene una importancia apreciable la garantía que ofrezcan los túneles de desagüe pertenecientes a las grandes obras de embalse. En todos estos casos es menester poseer un conocimiento previo de la zona elegida para tales obras, y de las consideraciones geológicas que el estudio provea se harán los cálculos de defensa que sean necesarios para obtener la estabilidad requerida. Estos trabajos de seguridad consisten, principalmente, en el revestimiento del túnel de acuerdo a las características petrográficas y tectónicas del tramo atravesado. No debe dejarse de tener en cuenta que en la mayoría de los casos no se puede elegir el lugar a perforar, exigiendo, la fuerza de las circunstancias, un lugar que no siempre es el más adecuado. Todo ello repercute en el costo de las obras a construir.
