description In this work, it is intended to ponder the ontological perspective as an analytical means to describe other or native epistemologies. This ontological characterization, of ethnographic strain, is thought to possess heuristic potential to challenge other scientific ways of producing and validating knowledge about cultural realities other than the one it describes. The existence of a Qom epistemology is postulated, theoretically availing ourselves of the distinction that Viveiros de Castro makes between an objectivist epistemology (properly Eurocentric and scientistic) in which knowing is objectifying (that is, removing from the object of knowledge everything that - improperly projected in it- it would belong to the knowing subject) of a shamanic epistemology (properly cosmo-centric and animistic), where knowing is personifying.      In an open, co-extensive and overpopulated world of intentional beings, the way in which Toba men and women acquire, produce, validate and transmit knowledge is inscribed in peculiar epistemological / ontological parameters; dreams, signs and interviews are original access routes to knowledge and power (which is a “know-how”) while thoughts and spoken words act as channels of communication, knowledge and action.

En este trabajo se pretende ponderar la perspectiva ontológica como medio analítico para describir epistemologías otras o nativas. Pensamos que esta caracterización ontológica, de cepa etnográfica, posee potencialidad heurística para interpelar (y relativizar) nuestras propias formas de producir y validar conocimientos. Postulamos la existencia de una epistemología Qom valiéndonos teóricamente de la distinción que Viveiros de Castro efectúa entre una epistemología objetivista (propiamente euro-céntrica y cientificista) en donde conocer es objetivar (esto es, quitar del objeto de conocimiento todo aquello que -indebidamente proyectado en él- pertenecería al sujeto cognoscente) de una epistemología shamánica (propiamente cosmo-céntrica y animista), en donde conocer es personificar. En un mundo abierto, co-extensivo y superpoblado de seres intencionales, muchos de los cuales no son más que entes naturales o sobrenaturales para nuestra formación ontológica moderna, la manera en que los hombre y mujeres Tobas producen y/o adquieren conocimiento se inscribe en parámetros epistemológicos muy distintos a los de la epistemología occidental; los sueños, las señas y las entrevistas suponen originales vías de acceso al conocimiento y al poder (que es un “saber hacer”) mientras que pensamiento y palabras pronunciadas actúan de canales de comunicación, conocimiento y acción.   Neste trabalho, a perspectiva ontológica é pesada como um meio analítico para descrever outras epistemologias ou epistemologias nativas. Pensamos que esta caracterização ontológica, de tensão etnográfica, tem potencial heurístico para questionar (e relativizar) as nossas próprias formas de produzir e validar o conhecimento. Postulamos a existência de uma epistemologia Qom, fazendo uso teórico da distinção que Viveiros de Castro faz entre uma epistemologia objectivista (devidamente eurocêntrica e científica) onde saber é objectivar (ou seja, retirar do objecto de conhecimento tudo aquilo que - indevidamente projectado sobre ele - pertenceria ao sujeito cognoscente) de uma epistemologia xamânica (devidamente cosmocêntrica e animista), onde saber é personificar. Num mundo aberto, co-extensivo e superpovoado com seres intencionais, muitos dos quais não passam de entidades naturais ou sobrenaturais para a nossa moderna formação ontológica, a forma como Toba homens e mulheres produzem e/ou adquirem conhecimento está inscrita em parâmetros epistemológicos muito diferentes dos da epistemologia ocidental; sonhos, sinais e entrevistas supõem formas originais de acesso ao conhecimento e ao poder (que é um "saber-fazer") enquanto o pensamento e as palavras pronunciadas actuam como canais de comunicação, conhecimento e acção.
