On one hand, the American experience gave tools and useful guides that made easier the religious conversion, on the other, said experience led to the conclusion that if they want to carry on the process in a correct way they need to give language and translation a central role. This paper searches to look at how said relationship between the American and Philippines cases were established, and via the translation of Ave María in three indigenous languages of Philippines how Jesuits perceived the translations. El proceso de evangelización en las islas de Filipinas a finales del XVI y comienzos del XVII estuvo permeado por dos elementos fundamentales, la situación imprevista que nació por el encuentro con América y la centralidad del lenguaje. Por un lado, la experiencia americana le suministró herramientas y guías útiles que facilitaron la conversión religiosa, por el otro, dicha experiencia llevó a la conclusión de que se si se desea llevar a cabo de forma correcta el proceso es menester darle centralidad al lenguaje y las traducciones. Este artículo busca observar cómo se establece dicha relación entre el caso filipino frente al americano, y mediante la traducción de la oración Ave María en tres lenguas indígenas de Filipinas cómo percibían los jesuitas las traducciones.
