However, little importance has yet been given to the analysis of sources which depict the economic aspects of the order, and which were used as grounds for expulsion in 1759. The aim of this paper is to discuss about the strong economical power of the Companhia de Jesus's priests, in order to verify the existence of this financial power and how it acted towards providing greater jurisdiction to the religious. Mucho se ha producido sobre las diferentes actuaciones de los ignacianos en la América lusitana y los diversos motivos de su expulsión. Sin embargo, se le ha dado poca importancia al análisis de fuentes que retraten los aspectos económicos de la orden, que fueron utilizados como justificaciones en 1759. El objetivo del artículo fue reflexionar sobre el poderío económico de los padres de la Compañía de Jesús, de modo de verificar la existencia de ese poder financiero y, asimismo, cómo actuaba en el sentido de dar mayor jurisdicción a los religiosos.
