El libro compilado por Irene Depetris Chauvin y Natalia Taccetta se sitúa en el cruce entre el giro afectivo y los estudios visuales con el fin de reflexionar sobre el modo en que las imágenes nos permiten entrar en contacto con el pasado. En la apertura, escrita por ambas compiladoras, explican por qué eligieron enmarcarse entre estas dos corrientes teóricas. El giro afectivo, según el relato de Depetris Chauvin y Taccetta, surge a partir de una insatisfacción general con el giro lingüístico y la perspectiva deconstruccionista.
