Abstract:
The lack of therapeutic adherence is a problem that has a worldwide impact, especially in individuals that present substance abuse problems. It is estimated that half of the chronic patients in developing countries do not adhere to the treatment.
It is inquired the treatment adherence of individuals with substance abuse problems during the mandatory and preventive lockdown at the Centro Asistencial Córdoba (CAS).
A quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive study was performed and a survey designed by SEDRONAR was applied to all the professionals at CAS during November, 2020, with 29 participants. The treatment adherence was inquired through two questions of the given survey to professionals.
To the question: “In your opinion, during the mandatory and preventive lockdown, did the visits related to substance abuse problems increase, decrease or not present a change?” 65.52% of the healthcare workers stated that the visits increased. On the other hand, 10.34% stated that the visits decreased, while 24.14% expressed that they have not changed.
To the question: “How many individuals that were under treatment maintained the adherence to it during the mandatory and preventive lockdown?” 27.59% of the healthcare workers stated that half of the patients adhered to the treatment. Then, 37.93% expressed that more than half of the patients adhered to the treatment. Furthermore, 10.34% emphasized that less than half of the patients adhered to the treatment. Finally, 24.14% stated that all or almost all the patients adhered to the treatment.
Authors like Zambrano, Ballivian and Quera et. al. comment that the treatment adherence decreased during the lockdown measures. According to what the healthcare workers of CAS cited, during the performance of the study, it was observed that the treatment adherence of the users presented a higher percentage than the one published in these studies.
