The artistic expressions of ancient Egypt were traditionally studied by Egyptology in light of the aesthetic conceptions of Western art. In this sense, the nineteenth-century trends were based on a value scale from an evolutionary notion -from which Egyptian representations are considered less developed than later times- to the affirmation of the non-existence of art in this historical context, due to the absence of a linguistic term proper to the hieroglyphic language for its designation.
In the present work we reflect on the use of the category 'art' in ancient Egypt from a journey through the conceptions outlined from the modern ontology of the late 18th century and early 19th century. On the other hand, we display those critical positions about of art in dialogue with the most recent conceptions of the discipline of Egyptology during the 20th and 21st century. Finally, we propose a case study of the representations of offerings to the deceased from the reflection from the positions of the ontological and decolonial turn. |

Las expresiones artísticas del antiguo Egipto fueron estudiadas tradicionalmente por la egiptología a la luz de las concepciones estéticas del arte occidental. En este sentido, las tendencias decimonónicas se basaron en una escala valorativa desde una noción evolucionista, a partir de la cual las representaciones egipcias son consideradas menos desarrolladas que épocas posteriores, hasta la afirmación de la inexistencia del arte en este contexto histórico, debido a la ausencia de un término lingüístico propio de la lengua jeroglífica para su denominación. En el presente trabajo reflexionamos sobre el uso de la categoría ‘arte’ en el Egipto antiguo a partir un recorrido por las concepciones bosquejadas desde la ontología moderna de finales del siglo 18 y principios del siglo 19. Por otra parte, desplegamos aquellas posturas críticas acerca del arte en diálogo con las concepciones más recientes de la disciplina egiptológica durante los siglos 20 y 21. Finalmente, proponemos un estudio de caso de las representaciones de las ofrendas a los difuntos a partir de la reflexión desde las posturas del giro ontológico y decolonial. As expressões artísticas do antigo Egito eram tradicionalmente estudadas pela egiptologia à luz das concepções estéticas da arte ocidental. Neste sentido, as tendências oitocentistas assentaram numa escala de valores desde uma noção evolucionista, a partir da qual as representações egípcias são consideradas menos desenvolvidas do que em épocas posteriores, até à afirmação da inexistência da arte neste contexto histórico, devido à ausência de um termo linguístico próprio da língua hieroglífica para sua denominação.No presente trabalho refletimos sobre o uso da categoria 'arte' no antigo Egito a partir de um percurso pelas concepções delineadas a partir da ontologia moderna do final do século 18 e início do século 19. da arte em diálogo com as concepções mais recentes da disciplina de egiptologia durante os séculos 20 e 21.
