The paleoethnobotany of central-east Argentina: developments and approaches

Developments in Paleoethnobotany in Center-East of Argentina, are synthesized in this paper. Diverse types of samples, both microremains (biosiliceous and starchy) and macroremains (anthracological and carpological), taken from sedimentary material and archaeological artifacts are presented. Studies...

Diverse types of samples, both microremains (biosiliceous and starchy) and macroremains (anthracological and carpological), taken from sedimentary material and archaeological artifacts are presented. Studies in the range area helped to identify the different uses of plant resources at successive occupation levels, from the Pleistocene-Holocene transition, until the late Holocene, and sectoring microenvironments inside studied western Tandilia range caves. In the coastal region, sites are dated during the late Holocene and located mostly on hills increased by human action in many cases. In these spaces multiproxies plant studies have provided new information about the wild and domestic resources and also characterize environement aspects of occupations and determine the resources in certain sectors of the sites. In summary, these studies has provided direct evidence of archaeological sites vegetation.
