This qualitative, exploratory and comparative research was done through a casestudy, inscribed in the paradigm of critical theories.Documents related to educational management were reviewed; interviews with students, professors, graduates and librarians; as well as a survey directed to the librarians and the direct observationof the library collections.Among the criteria that guided the conformation of the found collections, those related to the strengthening of critical thinking processes and the contents of the students' reality were identified.In the context of the necessary transformations in school libraries, it was found that it is necessary to structure collections with relevant content, in backups and formats that are in accordance with the conditions of the educational subjects and that promote close relationships with the written culture. and with the possibilities of development of historical consciousness in educational subjects.  La información del presente artículo recoge parte del estudio titulado “Biblioteca escolar y Colecciones: una perspectiva diversa y territorial”, en la cual se planteó, entre sus objetivos, la identificación de estrategias que emplean, las bibliotecas escolares, para integrar los contenidos de la diversidad cultural y el territorio a sus colecciones.La investigación se llevó a cabo en las bibliotecas de dos instituciones educativas de la ciudad de Medellín (Colombia). Esta investigación de corte cualitativo, exploratorio y comparado se hizo mediante un estudio de caso, inscrito en el paradigma de las teorías críticas.Se revisaron documentos de la gestión educativa; entrevistas a estudiantes, profesores, egresados y bibliotecarios; así como una encuesta dirigida a los bibliotecarios y la observación directa de las colecciones bibliotecarias.Entre los criterios que guiaban la conformación de las colecciones encontrados, se identificaron aquellos relacionados con el fortalecimiento de los procesos de pensamiento crítico y los contenidos propios de la realidad de los estudiantes.En el contexto de las transformaciones necesarias en las bibliotecas escolares, se descubrió que es preciso estructurar colecciones con contenidos pertinentes, en soportes y en formatos acordes con las condiciones de los sujetos educativos y que potencien las relaciones cercanas con la cultura escrita y con las posibilidades de desarrollo de la conciencia histórica en los sujetos educativos.
