We developed a didactic sequence in which we worked on solving open-ended problems, besides reading and textual production in science classes with a first-grade high school class. To do this, we used cordel, a popular Brazilian literature with a poem structure. Our research is based on the Theory of Historical-Cultural Activity, which understands activity as a complex system to be understood in its entirety. By analyzing the results obtained, we understand that literary artistic production provides students with a different way of organizing the projects developed and the scientific knowledge of more objective writing modes such as reports, for example, opening opportunities for the development and improvement of new skills. Este é um trabalho de estudo de caso que aborda aspectos relacionados à Arte e à Literatura brasileira no Ensino de Ciências em uma escola pública da cidade de São Paulo (SP), Brasil. Desenvolvemos uma sequência didática em que trabalhamos resolução de problemas abertos, leitura e produção textual em aulas de ciências com uma turma de primeira série do Ensino Médio. Para isso, utilizamos o cordel, uma literatura popular brasileira com estrutura de poemas. Nossa pesquisa está baseada na Teoria da Atividade Histórico-Cultural que compreende a atividade como um sistema complexo a ser entendido em completude.
