For this tour we start from a historical and critical position, and from a rights approach. Thus, we begin by reviewing the construction of the category of equality from the irruption of modern thought in the West, with the tensions that neoliberalism brought from the last decades of the 20th century, in order to advance on the different readings that arise in a second moment. regarding inequalities in the contemporary debate. Finally, and as a synthesis -which we do not intend to be closed- we propose some reflections that allow us to continue deepening these necessary analyzes for a deep and situated understanding of inequalities and the processes of citizenship in our societies, as a field of dispute for rights that they aspire to be institutionalized. En este artículo nos proponemos abordar la compleja relación entre las categorías desigualdad-igualdad. En la contemporaneidad, son múltiples las formas de abordar el análisis acerca de las desigualdades, por lo que el debate nos lleva a revisar no solo los puntos de partida para esas conceptualizaciones, sino también sus efectos éticos y políticos en la construcción de la realidad social actual. Para este recorrido partimos de un posicionamiento histórico y crítico y desde un enfoque de derechos. Así, iniciamos revisando la construcción de la categoría de igualdad a partir de la irrupción del pensamiento moderno en Ooccidente, con las tensiones que trajo el neoliberalismo a partir de las últimas décadas del siglo XX, para en un segundo momento avanzar sobre las distintas lecturas que surgen respecto de las desigualdades en el debate contemporáneo. Por último, y a modo de síntesis -que no pretendemos cerrada- proponemos algunas reflexiones que nos permitan continuar profundizando estos análisis necesarios para la comprensión profunda y situada de las desigualdades y los procesos de ciudadanización en nuestras sociedades, en tanto campo de disputa por derechos que aspiran a ser institucionalizados.
