We analyzed epidemiological data, gathered food assistance spaces, and conducted semi-structured interviews with references to community soup kitchens. Obesity and overweight were identified as the prevalent nutritional problems throughout the population, and their increase -as well of that of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes- was identified in proportion to the increase of age. Among representations and practices, we identified products and preparations consumed; election criteria; appraisals and difficulties for domestic cooking and food sharing; ways of supply and food assistance. By underlining the centrality of the right to adequate food, we will analyze food choices and practices considering their complexity. From a perspective of holistic and collective health, we reflect on food and nutrition education strategies that incorporate the perspective of critical interculturality and the contributions of popular education. Presentamos los resultados de una investigación desarrollada en la Villa 21-24/ Núcleo Habitacional Transitorio Zavaleta (Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina), cuyos objetivos fueron realizar un diagnóstico alimentario-nutricional de la población en situación de vulnerabilidad y contribuir al fortalecimiento de propuestas de promoción de alimentación saludable y actividad física. Se sistematizaron datos epidemiológicos, se caracterizaron espacios de asistencia alimentaria y se relevaron percepciones acerca de los hábitos y problemas nutricionales de la población. Para ello, se realizaron entrevistas semi-estructuradas a referentes de comedores comunitarios. Identificamos a la obesidad y sobrepeso como problemas nutricionales prevalentes en toda la población y su incremento -junto a enfermedades crónicas como hipertensión y diabetes- conforme aumenta la edad. A partir de las entrevistas realizadas se identificaron representaciones y prácticas; productos y preparaciones consumidas; criterios de elección; valoraciones y dificultades para la cocina y comensalidad domésticas; modos de abastecimiento y asistencia alimentaria. Remarcando la centralidad del derecho a la alimentación adecuada, analizamos las elecciones y prácticas alimentarias relevadas considerando su complejidad. Desde una perspectiva de salud integral y colectiva, reflexionamos sobre las estrategias de educación alimentaria y nutricional que incorporan la mirada de la interculturalidad crítica y los aportes de la educación popular.
