The students researched bibliography, tree species characterization sheets, seeds classification, germination essays and they identified typical species from the Espinal. Pre- and poststudy questionnaires were used to assess concepts and perceptions. The students’ previous conceptual knowledge was enriched during the study, but their procedural knowledge was not improved. Better short-term results regarding the integration and/or application of contents to problematic situations were observed. Extended educational programs are suggested, as well as short surveys and practical activities to assess changes. Se desarrolló un proyecto escolar con estudiantes de nivel secundario (12-16 años), vinculando Escuela, Universidad y Jardín Botánico. Los estudiantes identificaron y realizaron fichas de caracterización de especies arbóreas, búsquedas bibliográficas, clasificaron semillas, aprendieron a reconocer especies típicas del Espinal y lo servicios ecosistémicos que aporta la vegetación. Cuestionarios previos y posteriores a la intervención educativa permitieron evaluar los conceptos y percepciones. El conocimiento conceptual previo se enriqueció, pero el conocimiento procedimental no mejoró. Se observaron mejores resultados a corto plazo en la integración y/o aplicación de los contenidos a situaciones problemáticas. Se sugieren programas educativos extendidos, encuestas cortas y actividades prácticas para evaluar los cambios.
