For this he used his own means and redefined himself in his role as political lawyer. His speeches responded to the construction of a personal legitimacy that allowed him to defend himself against the accusations and show his suitability to resume positions in the public administration. Como miembro de la agrupación opositora al directorio de Juan Martín de Pueyrredon, el letrado Pedro José Agrelo sufrió adversidades similares a los de sus allegados, pero luego de una inicial defensa discursiva del grupo de desterrados en EE.UU., optó por legitimar sólo a su persona y forzar su retorno a Buenos Aires. Para ello utilizó sus propios medios y se redefinió en su rol como letrado político. Sus discursos respondieron a la construcción de una legitimidad personal que le permitió defenderse de las acusaciones y mostrar su idoneidad para retomar cargos en la administración pública.
