In this article, we want to analyze the place that some women of the centre and south communities of the Buenos Aires Province occupied in the construction of the social and political order through institutions that developed important functions for the modern State. En la primera década del siglo XX, y en el marco de los festejos del Centenario de la Revolución de Mayo, el Estado argentino se mostraba consolidado al amparo de un régimen republicano y liberal. Era esta una presentación por parte de los actores estatales, a tono con la celebración, pero que no debe prestarse a conclusiones apresuradas, en tanto se presentó como necesaria la redefinición de las relaciones entre los poderes públicos y la sociedad civil a la hora de atender necesidades de la población a las que el Estado aún no podía dar una respuesta. En este trabajo se busca analizar el lugar que ocuparon las mujeres notables de las comunidades del centro y sur de la Provincia de Buenos Aires a fines del siglo XIX y principios del XX en la construcción de ese orden social y político, en el seno de unas instituciones que venían a desempeñar un papel de central importancia para el Estado moderno.
