In this article (referred to Uruguay) we will: a) Examine, from the perspective of history of historiography, the process of setting classic nationalist imaginary; b) investigate the causes of problematization and the crisis of its contents (mainly in its core notions of independence, collective identity and repertoire-foundational mythemes from 1960 and displayed under the “Year of the Bicentennial Celebration of the Oriental Emancipation Process”); c) explore the reasons for the delayed development of alternative and prospective imaginary consensus, both from the social sciences and the political system. La conmemoración de los Bicentenarios en América Latina constituye una ocasión propicia para reflexionar sobre diversidad de cuestiones relacionadas con la historia de los Estados que la constituyen. En este artículo, referido a Uruguay, nos proponemos: a) examinar, desde la perspectiva de la historia de la historiografía, el proceso de configuración del imaginario nacionalista clásico; b) indagar las causas de la problematización y crisis de sus contenidos esenciales (fundamentalmente las nociones de independencia, identidad colectiva y repertorio de mitemas fundacionales a partir de la década de 1960 y exhibidas fuertemente en el marco del denominado “Año de Celebración del Bicentenario del Proceso de Emancipación Oriental”); c) estudiar las razones de la postergada formulación de imaginarios alternativos y prospectivas consensuadas, tanto desde el ámbito de las ciencias sociales como del sistema político.
