This institution, funded in 1911, was presented as a private institution of “high social studies” oriented to the public well-being. Its objectives were to gather and transmit information on the social question and to divulge the associativism as the answer to the “new” problems. In this way, in a context of establishing the social as problem, the rearrangements and restructurings observed in the core of MSA, have allowed us to shed light on a broader context for national and international debates on social problems as well as on the building of knowledge around them. Este trabajo indaga acerca de los derroteros de la reforma social en la Argentina a partir de una de sus instituciones: el Museo Social Argentino (MSA). El Museo, fundado en 1911, fue presentado como como un Instituto privado de “altos estudios sociales” orientado al bien público. Sus objetivos eran recoger y transmitir información sobre la cuestión social y difundir el asociativismo como respuesta a los “nuevos” problemas. De esta manera, en un momento de constitución de lo social como problema, los reacomodamientos y reestructuraciones observados en el seno del MSA, nos posibilitan iluminar el contexto más amplio de debates nacionales e internacionales sobre los problemas sociales y sobre la construcción de saberes en torno de ellos.
