description This paper aims to report the analysis which resulted of the comparison of the short story «El guante negro» by Juana Manuela Gorriti (1818-1892), and its translation into Brazilian Portuguese by Cecília de Souza Borba and published under the title «A luva negra», in the book Contos de Juana Manuela Gorriti (LiberArs, São Paulo, 2017), which is the first anthology of the Argentine author in Portuguese. The theoretical framework of the analysis proposes an interface of concepts of the Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS) (Toury, 1980, 2004 [1995]), to verify whether the translator has met the Initial and Operational Norms, and Functional Systemic Linguistics (FSL) (Halliday, 1994), to proceed to textual segmentation. The main objective of the paper to determine whether there is a systematization that proves the translator’s decisions have met a coherence paradigm. The methodology adopted in the research contains quantitative and qualitative analysis. Thus, from the comparison of the sentence segments of the original text and its translation we will try to find out whether the translation of the short is more appropriate to the Source Text (ST) or contains more acceptability to the Target Text (TM). The main working hypothesis relates to the adequacy of lexical and syntactic changes, mainly in regards to the initial and operational norms, established in the DTS, and as regards theme and row, foreseen in the LSF. As a preliminary conclusion, it is intended that the translation be culturally accepted by the Brazilian readers of the 21st century and, at the same time, maintain traces of the poetic of the author.

As a preliminary conclusion, it is intended that the translation be culturally accepted by the Brazilian readers of the 21st century and, at the same time, maintain traces of the poetic of the author.
