The aim is to study the representations of language (Boyer, 1990) in the translated text —from a sociolinguistic approach— that might have led to follow certain norms in translation (Toury, 1995). The novel is La mesera era nueva [La serveuse était nouvelle, translated into English as The Waitress Was New] by Dominique Fabre, translated from French to Spanish by Laura Masello in 2006 by a Uruguayan publishing house, in cooperation with an Argentinian and a Chilean publishing house. The Spanish dialect will be studied from a lexical point of view, emphasising the main difficulties found when analysing the lexical items gathered. Since Spanish is a language of pluricentric standardisation, and given the outline of the institutions that regulate Spanish, some standard varieties from Latin America may be presented in the different lexicographic resources. A partir de los estudios descriptivos de traducción propuestos por Toury (1995), y en el marco de las propuestas de la sociología de la traducción (Casanova, 2002; Sapiro, 2010), este artículo busca presentar los avances de una investigación en el marco de la tesis de la maestría de la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación (Universidad de la República). El objetivo radica en estudiar, a partir del texto meta, las representaciones sociolingüísticas (Boyer, 1990) que pueden haber llevado a seguir ciertas normas de traducción (Toury, 1995): La mesera era nueva de Dominique Fabre fue traducido del francés al español por Laura Masello en 2006 para una editorial uruguaya, en coedición con una editorial argentina y una chilena. Se trabajará con la variedad lingüística (marcada en el ámbito léxico) del español que presenta el texto y, específicamente, las principales dificultades encontradas en el momento de proceder al análisis de las expresiones relevadas. Al ser el español una lengua de estandarización pluricéntrica con las características que revisten las instituciones que dictan las normas lingüísticas, puede ocurrir que algunas variedades estándares americanas queden dispersas en los repertorios lexicográficos que las contienen.
