The authors present a reconstruction of the political discourse of the transition to democracy based on a critical reading of the debates between socialist and Peronist intellectuals that took place in three magazines of the era. Like a journey to the past, they transport us to moments of political discussion that today feel both distant and close in equal measure. Drawing from the contributions of the new intellectual history and contemporary post-foundational political theory, the book proposes to recover the voices of those thinkers and militants of the past who discussed the meanings of democracy while considering its relationships with the political traditions to which they belonged. If the reading of this book leaves us with anything, it is that those controversies and unresolved tensions still resonate in our current analyses of political reality.

Cada tanto, algún acontecimiento nos sacude de nuestras rutinas y nos lleva a cuestionar la viabilidad de la democracia en nuestro país, ya sea debido al giro hacia la derecha que se observa a nivel global, a los líderes autoritarios que promueven teorías conspirativas o a la violencia política que parece asomarse como promesa de solución de conflictos. Al respecto, puede ser sugerente la propuesta que Ariana Reano y Martina Garategaray nos acercan en su libro La transición democrática como contexto intelectual. Debates políticos en la Argentina de los años ochenta, publicado en 2021 por la UNGS. Las autoras nos presentan una reconstrucción del discurso político de la transición a la democracia a partir de la lectura crítica de los debates entre intelectuales socialistas y peronistas, que se dieron en tres revistas de la época. Cual viaje al pasado, nos transportan a momentos de discusión política que hoy nos resultan distantes y próximos en la misma medida. Desde los aportes de la nueva historia intelectual y de la teoría política contemporánea posfundacional, se propone recuperar las voces de aquelles pensadores y militantes del pasado que discutían los sentidos de la democracia, al tiempo que consideraban sus relaciones con las tradiciones políticas a las que pertenecían. Si algo nos deja la lectura del libro es que esas polémicas y tensiones no resueltas todavía resuenan en nuestros análisis actuales de la realidad política.
