In what is considered her most "republican" work, On Revolution, of 1963, based on the analysis of the American and French Revolutions, Hannah Arendt focuses her reflection on the preservation and legitimization of the power generated by the new body politic born of the revolution. And also to another central question: how to prevent the egalitarian structure of the republic from slipping into the impotence of all, a threat that, in a previous text, from 1953, she had pointed out as the great risk of regimes based on equality? The danger of the political impotence of individuals in a democratic society is also a theme present in the reflections of Tocqueville, an author with whom Arendt shows a strong confluence in On Revolution, although he mentions it sparingly. This article aims to show how the problem of the powerlessness of citizens in egalitarian regimes is approached in an approximate way by the two authors and the confluences in the thought of both not only in the sense of thinking the ways for the institutionalization and preservation of power in the republic, but also the means to ensure a broad citizen participation in the public sphere, in order to preserve the republican public spirit. |

En la que se considera su obra más “republicana”, Sobre la revolución, de 1963, basada en el análisis de las Revoluciones Americana y Francesa, Hannah Arendt centra su reflexión en la preservación y legitimación del poder generado por el nuevo cuerpo político nacido de la revolución. Y también a otra cuestión central: ¿cómo evitar que la estructura igualitaria de la república deslice en la impotencia de todos, amenaza que, en un texto anterior, de 1953, había señalado como el gran riesgo de los regímenes basados en la igualdad? El peligro de la impotencia política de los individuos en una sociedad democrática es también un tema presente en las reflexiones de Tocqueville, autor con el que Arendt demuestra una fuerte confluencia en De la revolución, aunque lo menciona escasamente. En este artículo se pretende mostrar cómo el problema de la impotencia de los ciudadanos en regímenes igualitarios es abordado de forma aproximada por los dos autores y las confluencias en el pensamiento de ambos no sólo en el sentido de pensar los caminos para la institucionalización y preservación del poder en la república, sino también los medios para asegurar una amplia participación ciudadana en la esfera pública, a fin de preservar el espíritu público republicano. Naquela que é considerada a sua obra mais “republicana”, Sobre a revolução, de 1963, a partir da análise das Revoluções Americana e Francesa, Hannah Arendt concentra sua reflexão sobre a preservação e a legitimação do poder gerado pelo novo corpo político nascido da revolução. E também para outra questão central: como evitar que a estrutura igualitária da república resvale na impotência de todos, uma ameaça que, em um texto anterior, de 1953, ela tinha apontado como o grande risco dos regimes baseados na igualdade? O perigo da impotência política dos indivíduos em uma sociedade democrática é também um tema presente nas reflexões de Tocqueville, autor com quem Arendt demonstra uma forte confluência em Sobre a revolução, embora o cite de maneira esparsa. Neste artigo, o propósito é mostrar como o problema da impotência dos cidadãos nos regimes igualitários é abordado de forma aproximada pelos dois autores e as confluências no pensamento de ambos não só no sentido de pensar os caminhos para a institucionalização e a preservação do poder na república, mas também os meios para assegurar uma ampla participação dos cidadãos na esfera pública, de maneira a preservar o espírito público republicano.
