For the achievement of such an aim, we will analyze the production historiographical developed in respect of the State penitentiary of Buenos Aires and of some provincial or territorial spaces, to demonstrate the different realities. Then highlight the importance in the use of the methods of those disciplines in order to achieve a more complete and suitable comprehension of the history of the prison question in our country, which allows to perceive the shades and existing differences. El propósito de este artículo es señalar la conveniencia de la utilización de algunas categorías instrumentales de la historia local y de la historia comparativa como método para analizar la historia de la prisión en la Argentina entre 1890/1920. Para el logro de tal objetivo, analizaremos la producción historiográfica desarrollada respecto de la Penitenciaría Nacional de Buenos Airesy de algunos espacios provinciales o territoriales, demostrando las distintas realidades; para luego destacar la trascendencia de la utilización de los métodos propios de aquellas disciplinas con el fin de lograr una comprensión más completa y adecuada de la historia de la cuestión carcelaria en nuestro país, que permita percibir los matices y diferencias existentes.
