This is a considerable amount of letters sent to the illustrious Uruguayan historian by foreign intellectuals and academic corporations. The purpose of this article is to show the potential usefulness of the corpus for research on the process of shaping the historiographic fields of the Rio de la Plata region between the 1930s and the 1950s and 60s. Custodiada en el Archivo General de la Nación de Montevideo, la “Colección Juan Ernesto Pivel Devoto” contiene, entre otras series documentales, un epistolario prácticamente inexplorado. Se trata de una considerable cantidad de cartas remitidas al ilustre historiador uruguayo por parte de intelectuales y corporaciones académicas extranjeras. El propósito de este artículo es dar cuenta de la potencial utilidad del corpus para investigaciones referidas al proceso de configuración de los campos historiográficos rioplatenses entre las décadas de 1930 y 1950-60.
