description The Holocene evolution of the Atlantic coast is key for the study of human occupations in the northeast of the Fuegian steppe. Its impact in the differential destruction of littoral archaeological sites north of Nombre Cape due to coastline retreat was already acknowledged. Changes created by littoral dynamics at San Sebastián Bay also deeply modified the landscape and the availability of biotic and abiotic resources. The El Páramo Spit was the trigger for the geomorphological changes that occurred in this segment of the coast, a reason to select it as the focus of our archaeological assessment. In this paper we review the material transformations created by coastal evolution (i.e. availability of raw materials, food, and revamped environments) and evaluate their impact in the cultural geography of hunter-gatherers during the Late Holocene, as well as its importance for the human occupations during historical times. We conclude that the geomorphological evolution of San Sebastian Bay during the Middle and Late Holocene was accompanied by the anthropomorphization of the landscape. Therefore, the study of the archaeological record requires regional survey strategies concordant with physical and cultural geography history.
