description	In this paper we want to discuss the treatment that the most recent pre-Hispanic societies of Tafi del Valle (Tucumán) have given to human bodies, both in life and after death. We work on evidences recovered under archaeological rescue work carried out in the North and West of the Valley, giving scientific meaning to data sets which often remain compiled in mere technical reports. We have conducted bioarchaeological investigations on twelve individuals who date back to the first half of the second millennium of the Christian era, identifying adult and subadult individuals of different sex and age range. A significant number of them accounts for the implementation of cultural practices on the living body (cranial morphological modifications) and also, postmortem. This issue will be treated under the context of this work, to assess and discuss some aspects of the conception of human body by pre-Hispanic native societies –both in life and after death–, through the bioarchaeological research evidence recovered in the area under study.
