description The Fourth Industrial Revolution has triggered an unprecedented lifestyle and thinking. Consequently, and to challenge this stage, people require new skills and competencies associated with the so-called Computational Thinking (CT). This article considers the incidence of Piaget's constructivist theory and Paper’s contributions as background to the proposal developed by Jeannette Wing on the (CT). It also reflects aspects related to CT, as an emerging concept whose definition shows lack of consensus. The CT related skills required in this century are also analyzed, as well as pedagogical approaches that demand changes related to the curriculum. Also, the training and teaching practice are analyzed in order to optimize the opportunities offered by technologies in the educational field. Finally, spaces and advances on the topic proposed in England, Spain, USA, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Argentina are described.
