The aim of this study was to evaluate the relevance of the use of different formats for answers in a Likert-type scale. Were conducted psychometric analyzes in various formats proposed in the scale (item analysis, reliability and factor structure). Were found similarities in terms of the psychometric characteristics of four formats proposed. We conclude that both politomous and dichotomous formats provide important information as to the reliability and validity of the instrument. Las escalas tipo Likert desde su aparición y difusión han tenido gran acogida y son consideradas como uno de los métodos más adecuados para construir tests psicológicos. Además, se asume que mientras más opciones tengan se obtendrá mayor información acerca del individuo y por tanto presentará mejores propiedades psicométricas. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la pertinencia del uso de diferentes formatos de respuestas dentro de una escala tipo Likert. Se realizaron análisis psicométricos en los diversos formatos propuestos en la escala (análisis de ítems, confiabilidad y estructura factorial). Se encontraron similitudes en cuanto a las características psicométricas de cuatro formatos propuestos. Se concluye que el formato establecido no afecta las propiedades psicométricas del instrumento como la confiabilidad y validez.
