The analyses were developed using a dialogic notion of agency, language and subjectivity. Therefore, analyses were made of discuss and textboxes that introduce the concept of language according to notice of the Brazil’s National Textbook Program. The presence of other languages (immigrant, indigenous, or Afro-Brazilian sacred languages, and Brazilian sign language) was expected. This study seeks to shed light on the residual effect of the myth of monolingualism that, in the present researcher’s point of view, may decrease linguistic diversity, which was virtually restricted to explanations about variation, herein considered as a metonymic representation of diversity. Discute-se, numa perspectiva glotopolítica, a noção de Ideologias Linguísticas e o tratamento dado à diversidade de línguas em um dos livros de Língua Portuguesa publicados no Brasil por uma editora transnacional. As reflexões fundamentam-se nas noções de agenciamento, língua(gem) e subjetividade. Analisam-se as discussões e os boxes dos capítulos que apresentam os conceitos de língua(gem) conforme diretrizes do edital do Programa Nacional do Livro Didático Esperava-se encontrar a presença de outras línguas — as indígenas, as línguas sagradas afro-brasileiras, as de imigração ou de sinais. Procurou-se compreender o efeito residual do mito do monolinguismo a partir do qual, supõe-se, se instaura o silenciamento sobre a diversidade linguística, que ficou praticamente restrita às explicações sobre variação, tomada como representação metonímica da diversidade.
