The estimated model, based on a translogarithmic technology to capture second-order relationships, corroborates the evidence from the literature: although it is a controversial approach in terms of methodologies used and expected results, there is agreement that the most significant factor in explaining students' academic achievement is socio-economic status. However, without proposing prescriptions for the use of specific inputs, the results of the model suggest important space for educational decision-makers at decentralised levels. El presente trabajo tiene por objeto estimar una función de producción educativa para Mendoza. El modelo estimado, basado en una tecnología translogarítmica para captar relaciones de segundo orden, corrobora lo evidenciado por la literatura: aún siendo un enfoque controvertido en términos de metodologías utilizadas y resultados esperados, es coincidente en cuanto a que el factor más significativo para explicar el alcance académico de los alumnos es el nivel socioeconómico. No obstante, sin llegar a proponer recetas acerca de la utilización de insumos específicos, los resultados del modelo sugieren importante espacio para los tomadores de decisiones educativas a niveles descentralizados.     Instituto de Economía y Finanzas.
