The sample was composed of 438 participants from Peru. The online survey method using the LimeSurvey platform was used. The results showed significant differences between the groups with and without anxiety, with respect to gender, perceived threats, degree of confidence in the information and self-confidence in COVID-19. Anxiety was significantly correlated with perceived threats. No significant differences were found with respect to age, educational level, economic income, religion, preventive behaviors, proven and mythologized perceptions, and probability of contagion. Finally, the importance of preventive behaviours and access to reliable and appropriate information to reduce psychological distress is discussed.
