The aim of this paper is to approach the mechanisms of lexical innovation in Chacoan Guarani or Chiriguano language, which resulted in the absorption of a large variety of new words into the daily lexical repertoire. I will focus particularly on three ways in which the processes of lexical innovation can manifest themselves: through the creation of new words, through the incorporation of borrowings, or through operations of semantic extension whereby words already existing in the language acquire new meanings. To this end, I have worked both with written materials such as dictionaries, glossaries and documents of different types in order to identify new lexical elements, as well as with oral discourse documented during my ethnographic research. I will try to address the dynamics of the processes of lexical innovation from an anthropological perspective that will allow to recover the ethno-historical aspects that influenced them at different times and to observe the ways in which they contribute to signifying and constructing indigenous modernity. |

El objetivo de este trabajo es documentar los mecanismos de innovación léxica en la lengua guaraní chaqueña o chiriguano que han resultado en la absorción de una gran cantidad de palabras nuevas al acervo léxico cotidiano. Me focalizaré, en particular, en tres modos en los que pueden manifestarse estos procesos: mediante la creación de nuevas palabras, mediante la incorporación de préstamos, y las operaciones de extensión semántica mediante las cuales palabras ya existentes en la lengua adquieren nuevos significados. Para ello he trabajado tanto con materiales escritos como diccionarios, glosarios y documentos de distintos tipos en los que identifiqué elementos léxicos novedosos y también con discurso oral, a partir de mi propia investigación etnográfica. Se trata entonces de abordar la dinámica de los procesos de innovación léxica desde una perspectiva antropológica que permita recuperar también los aspectos etnohistóricos que influyeron en ellos en distintos momentos y observar los modos en los que contribuyen a significar y construir la modernidad indígena. O objetivo deste trabalho é documentar os mecanismos de inovação lexical na língua Guarani Chaco ou Chiriguano que resultaram na absorção de um grande número de novas palavras ao léxico diário. Focalizarei, em particular, três maneiras pelas quais esses processos podem se manifestar: pela criação de novas palavras, pela incorporação de empréstimos, e pelas operações de extensão semântica por meio das quais palavras já existentes na língua adquirem novos significados. Para isso tenho trabalhado tanto com materiais escritos como dicionários, glossários e documentos de diversos tipos em que identifiquei novos elementos lexicais, quanto com discurso oral, a partir de minha própria pesquisa etnográfica. Trata-se, então, de abordar a dinâmica dos processos de inovação lexical a partir de uma perspectiva antropológica que também permite resgatar os aspectos etno-históricos que os influenciaram em diferentes momentos e observar as formas como contribuem para significar e construir a modernidade indígena.
