Along its length, it receives various sources that vary in quality, such as effluents from the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) downstream of the city of Alta Gracia. The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME WQI) Water Quality Index (WQI) was applied to evaluate the variation in water quality of the stream along its course, considering its landscape importance and recreational use. At the same time, a study of ionic composition was carried out to evaluate the differences that the different sources flowing into the stream can mean. The results show that the stream has an autodepuration capacity, showing the stabilization of the organic material indicators (BOD and DO) but the recuperation of the sanitary aspects is not enough (high leves of  Escherichia coli ). The ionic composition shows a change in the ionic state of its waters, going from a calcareous and bicarbonate-type state to a more alkaline state. El arroyo Chicamtoltina tiene una longitud de 13 Km desde su naciente en la localidad de Alta Gracia hasta su desembocadura en el río Anisacate en la localidad homónima. A lo largo de su recorrido es receptor de diversas fuentes que varían su calidad, como los efluentes provenientes de la estación depuradora de aguas residuales (EDAR) aguas abajo de ciudad de Alta Gracia. Se aplicó el índice de calidad de agua (ICA) del Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) para evaluar la variación en la calidad del agua del arroyo a lo largo de su recorrido considerando la importancia paisajística y el uso recreativo que este tiene. A su vez, se realizó un estudio de composición iónica para evaluar las diferencias que pueden significar las distintas fuentes que desembocan en el arroyo. Los resultados muestran que el arroyo tiene capacidad de autodepuración mostrando la estabilización de los indicadores de materia orgánica (DBO5 y OD) pero no es suficiente la recuperación de los aspectos sanitarios (altos niveles de Escherichia coli). La composición iónica muestra un cambio en el estado iónico de sus aguas, pasando de un estado calcáreo y tipo bicarbonatadas hacia un estado más alcalino.
