The function and importance of any scientific collection implies first understanding the property of the specimens: their unique nature and, on the other hand, the relationship they have with the generation and advancement of scientific knowledge. In the case of collections that are without registration, provenance or diagnosis of their pathology in the Museum of Pathological Anatomy, determines a permanent work. Without the existence of the collections, there would be no opportunity to validate the information, the hypotheses or interpretations derived from the study of the same. The objective was to recover damaged pieces of museum for diagnosis and subsequent registration. From a total of 17 macroscopic pieces lacking preservation policies and diagnosis of their pathology, they were recovered based on discarding of the fixing medium, washing with common water, rehydration in several stages, taking of material and procedure histological according to routine techniques. The recovery and conservation of the 17 macroscopic pieces, allowed to find their diagnoses, their labeling, their registration and start up the museum's laboratory, a teaching-learning space that encourages research and promotes the protection of valuable heritage from the pathology museum. The decrease in museum collections is due to loss, destruction or disintegration, institutional transfer, exchange, among others. Proceed to their recoveries, value the coding systems and indicate the different records and tools used.

El valor científico de las colecciones que alberga un museo es de un incalculable valor patrimonial, lo que obliga a su cuidado permanente. La función e importancia de cualquier colección científica, implica entender primero la propiedad de los ejemplares: su naturaleza única y, por otra parte, la relación que tienen con la generación y avance del conocimiento científico. En el caso de las colecciones que se encuentran sin registro, procedencia ni diagnóstico de su patología en el Museo de Anatomía Patológica, determina un trabajo permanente. Sin la existencia de las colecciones, no existiría la oportunidad de validar la información, las hipótesis o interpretaciones derivadas del estudio de las mismas. El objetivo del trabajo fue recuperar piezas deterioradas de museo para su diagnóstico y posterior registro. De un total de 17 piezas macroscópicas carentes de políticas de preservación y diagnóstico de su patología, se procedió a recuperarlas en base a descarte del medio de fijación, lavado con agua común, rehidratación en varias etapas, tomas de material y procedimiento histológico según las técnicas de rutina. La recuperación y conservación de las 17 piezas macroscópicas, permitió encontrar sus diagnósticos, la rotulación de las mismas, su registro y  poner en marcha el laboratorio del museo, espacio de enseñanza-aprendizaje que fomenta la investigación y promueve la protección del valioso patrimonio del museo de patología. La disminución de las colecciones de un museo se debe a pérdida, destrucción o desintegración, traspaso institucional, canje, entre otros.
