The anthropometric assessment (Body Mass Index - BMI - according to NSI, normality: 23-27 kg/m2, body fat percentage and manual grip strength) was performed applying international protocols. Descriptive analyses and Pearson correlation were performed to evaluate the association between variables of interest. The mean body fat percentage, BMI and muscle strength in men were 34.2 ± 2.4%, 28.7 ± 3.8 kg/m2 and 28.6 ± 5 kg; and in women 41.4 ± 6.5% 27.8 ± 4.1 kg / m2 and 22.4 ± 5.2 kg/m2 respectively. Excess weight predominated in both men and women (55.6% and 60.9% respectively). Only 3 people had low weight (BMI <23kg / m2). 66.7% of men and only 22.7% of women presented decreased muscle strength. A moderate negative correlation between age and muscular strength (r = -0.435), and a moderate positive correlation between weight and age (r = 0.486) in women were observed. When analyzing muscle strength and weight, a moderate positive correlation between these variables in the total sample was identified (r = 0.491). Most of the older adults that participated in the study presented an excess weight.  As age increased muscle strength decreased, mainly in women. Besides, muscle strength and body weight were positively correlated.

La antropometría es una  herramienta fundamental y de fácil aplicación para evaluar el deterioro funcional  y la manutención de la independencia del adulto mayor. El objetivo fue describir y evaluar la asociación entre las características antropométricas y fuerza  muscular de los adultos mayores que asisten a la Fundación Grupo Amigo de los Diabéticos en el Centro Médico Ricardo Pampuri, Villa Carlos Paz en el año 2019. Estudio descriptivo transversal correlacional en adultos mayores (n=33) que realizan actividad física en la Fundación Grupo Amigo de los Diabéticos en el Centro Médico Ricardo Pampuri,  Villa Carlos Paz entre marzo y mayo de 2019. Se realizó la valoración antropométrica (Índice de Masa Corporal -IMC-  según NSI, normalidad: 23-27 kg/m2, % de grasa corporal y fuerza de prensión manual) aplicando protocolos internacionales Se realizaron análisis descriptivos y correlación de Pearson para evaluar asociación entre variables de interés. La media de % de grasa corporal, IMC y Fuerza muscular en hombres fue 34,2±2,4 %,  28,7±3,8 kg/m2 y 28,6±5 kg; y en mujeres 41,4±6,5 % 27,8±4,1 kg/m2 y 22,4±5,2 kg/m2. El exceso de peso predominó tanto en hombres y mujeres (55,6 % y 60,9 % respectivamente). Solo 3 personas presentaron bajo peso (IMC <23kg/m2). El 66,7% de los hombres y sólo el 22,7% de mujeres presentaron fuerza muscular disminuida. Se observó correlación negativa moderada entre edad y fuerza muscular (r= -0,435)  y,  una correlación positiva moderada entre peso y edad (r= 0,486) en mujeres. Al analizar fuerza muscular y peso hubo correlación positiva moderada en la muestra total(r= 0,491). El exceso de peso predominó en la población de adultos mayores. A medida que aumentó la edad disminuyó la fuerza muscular principalmente en mujeres. Además, se correlacionó positivamente la fuerza muscular y peso corporal.  Universidad Nacional Cba.
