Methods: We prospectively measured weight. height and cephalic perimeter of normal newborns of both sexes. At the same time sought the birth weight of the mother. The data  ere analyzed in a Pearson correlation matrix. Results: We studied 180 mothers and infants,  9 boys and 81 girls. The correlation coefflcient between maternal birth weight and child  irth weight was for males 0.321 (p 0.001) and for females was 0.216 (p 0.053). Conclusions: In the present sample, maternal birth weight was significantly correlated only  ith firstborn male's birth weight.  El peso de nacimiento esta influenciado por factores ambientales intrauterinos y factores genéticos. Los principales determinantes del peso de nacimiento son  a edad gestacional y el sexo del producto. No se conoce bien la posible asociación entre el peso de la madre al nacer y el del producto. El propósito del presente trabajo fue Investigar  a correlación entre el peso de nacimiento de la madre con el de su primer hijo. Métodos: Se  idieron prospectivamente peso, talla y perímetro cefálico de recién nacidos normales de  mbos sexos. Al mismo tiempo se recabó el peso de nacimiento de la madre. Los datos se  nalizaron en una matriz de correlación de Pearson. Resultados: Se estudiaron 180 binomios madre/recién nacidos, 99 niños y 81 niñas. El coeficiente de correlación entre peso de nacimiento materno y peso del producto de sexo masculino fue de 0,321 (p 0,00 1) mientras que para el sexo femenino fue de 0,216 (p 0,053). Conclusiones: En la muestra estudiada el peso de nacimiento materno se correlacionó significativamente sólo con el peso de  acimiento de los primogénitos de sexo masculino. Universidad Nacional Cba.
