La calidad en la educación superior es una preocupación importante en prácticamente todos los países del mundo. Muchos factores lo explican: la diversificación de las instituciones, la competencia entre ellas por ganar a los estudiantes, los cambios en el modo de producción de los conocimientos, el interés por resguardar el nivel y la pertinencia del aprendizaje, los requerimientos de la globalización, la necesidad de homologar las condiciones en las nuevas regiones creadas y el sentido y la idoneidad de los estudios, figuran entre los mas destacados.
