With this expression, mention was made of different militant organizations of the 1960s and 1970s in a period of ideological radicalization. This article aims to analyze the history of this concept to make a controversy about its use. For this purpose, the specific bibliography will be analyzed. To this will be added documents that support the statements made. El concepto “nueva izquierda” fue utilizado con sistematicidad dentro del abanico terminológico de la historiografía argentina desde los años 1980 para hacer referencia a ciertos agrupamientos y nociones que en las décadas del 60 y 70 englobaron al mundo de la militancia en un contexto de radicalización política e ideológica. El presente artículo se propone recorrer las derivas de esta nomenclatura y establecer una reflexión y polémica sobre la extensión de su utilización. Para ello, se establecerá un diálogo crítico con la bibliografía pertinente a esta temática —la que, a su vez, se entrecruzará con determinados documentos primarios que sustentan las afirmaciones esgrimidas.
