For the first dimension, we give an account of the changes made at the University of San Marcos based on the demands of the students. In the case of the second, we explain how the university movement links up with other social sectors, especially with the workers, not only by supporting each other in their repertoires of struggle, but also by creating Volkshochschulen as spaces for strengthening and forming active citizenship. Finally, with regard to the political dimension, we show how the Peruvian Student Federation and the University Reform Committee participated in the celebrations of the centenary of independence, and from those initial experiences in the public sphere, the country had a generation aware of its role as a social actor that had a presence for much of Peru's political life in the twentieth century, whether as representatives in Parliament, diplomats, critical intellectuals or political leaders. En este artículo desarrollamos los principales hitos de la reforma universitaria de 1919 del Perú a partir del análisis de tres dimensiones: la institucional, la social y la política. Para la primera dimensión damos cuenta de los cambios realizados en la Universidad de San Marcos a partir de las demandas de los estudiantes. En el caso de la segunda, explicamos cómo se vincula el movimiento universitario con otros sectores sociales, especialmente con los obreros, no solo apoyándose mutuamente en sus repertorios de contienda, sino también creando universidades populares como espacios de fortalecimiento y formación de ciudadanía activa. Finalmente, respecto a la dimensión política, mostramos cómo la Federación de Estudiantes del Perú y el Comité de Reforma Universitaria participaron en las celebraciones del centenario de la independencia, y desde esas experiencias iniciales en el ámbito público, el país contó con una generación consciente de su rol como actor social que tuvo presencia durante gran parte de la vida política del Perú del siglo XX, ya sea como representantes en el Parlamento, diplomáticos, intelectuales críticos o líderes políticos.
