Through the analysis of the films Terra Estrangeira (1995), directed by Walter Salles and Daniela Thomas and Como nascem os anjos (1996), directed by Murilo Salles we seek to highlight the filmic procedures that suggest a reading of the construction of the nationhood. What are the characteristics of the nationhood we can find in the movies? This is the main question that guides the film analysis in this paper. In an age of discussion about the local and the global, our goal is to find characteristics of a way of presence of the national in the face of the globalization of cultures.
