Sumario:A textural, mineralogical (sand and clay fractions) andgeochemical (oxides of majoritary compounds) characterization of parent material of Mollisols of a sector of Australes Ranges (Buenos Aires Province) was done. Parent material consits basically of loessian deposits, with some degree of fluvial retransport in some cases, of holocene age (Saavedra Formation). The parent material exhibits great variability in all its properties, because of the comparatively short distance from the source areas (Cordillera de los Andes and alluvial plains of Negro and Colorado Rivers) and the effect of the local provenance (hilly area, mainly quartzites).
