Effects of parathion and 2,4-d to eggs incubation and larvae hatching in Chasmagnathus granulata (decapoda, brachyura)

1. Effects of the pesticides parathion and 2,4-d on the crab Chasmagnathus granulata during eggs incubation period were assessed. 2. Abortion of egg masses carried by the females occurred. 3. ec50 values for clutch loss were 34 μg/l for parathion and 7.4 mg/l for 2,4-d. 4. When hatching occurred, pa...

Sumario:1. 4. When hatching occurred, parathion reduced the number of larvae hatched per female, while 2,4-D did not. 5. Morphological abnormalities in hatched larvae, such as hidropsy and atrophy of eyes, pleon and dorsal spine, could be noted for both pesticides. While 2,4-d produced a higher global incidence of all of them, at 1 μg/l of parathion hidropsy and atrophy of eyes had a relative higher incidence than the other abnormalities. © 1993.
