Sumario:The article reconstructs and analizes the course of the economic transformation in progress in Argentina. In that course, 1991 is a turning point that demarcates the boundary between two periods of the process of economic liberalization initiated by a political leader with strong popular support. The Convertibility Plan launched in 1991 establishes the frontier between the two periods: the plan's institutional mechanisms were instrumental to achieve price stability and, at the same time, placed Argentine productive organization under a new economic regime. Focusing on these two context of policy change, the article explores the political and economic dynamics of the structural reforms up to the present -end of 1996-, a time when changes in the international and domestic environment raise questions and challenges about the future.
