Sumario: | Nothofagidites americanus n. sp. (fossil pollen of Nothofagus) is described from Patagonic and Antarctic deposits. It belongs to the Nothofagus menziesii type, and is distinguished from the Australian/New Zealand N. asperus by the smaller size and shorter colpi. It partially embraces South American material previously described as N. asperus and N. suggatei. The new species has a known stratigraphic range from Maastrichtian to Lower Miocene. © 1992. |
