Sumario:Mesoscopic kinking formed in cleaved rocks of the Hinojo, Providencia, Lolen and Sauce Grande Formations and mylonitic bands within basement rocks are described. Angular relationships between the obtuse bisectors in conjugate compressive kink fold sets and the planar anisotropy (cleavage) are related to lithology and geographical location. The deduced compressive field has plunges at 10° towards 330° and has a σ 1 nearly parallel to the preexisting penetrative anisotropy (cleavage). The kinking is associated with a later brittle deformation stage developed on the SW margin of the La Plata Craton during the last events of NW convergence of the Hercynian Orogeny. -English summary
