Temperature and strain rate superposition properties of low cycle fatigue failure curves in the coffin-manson representation

Sumario:The data from other investigators is shown to follow a general superposition property of the log δε{lunate}p -log Nf curves generated at all levels of temperature and strain rate during isothermal strain-controlled fatigue tests. This property is found in consequence of energy criterion for fatigue failure, where the material is described by a mechanical constitutive equation for creep controlled by the thermally assisted motion of jogged screw dislocations. The scaling relationship is shown to be dependent of the ratio between the self diffusion energy and the energy to form a jog. © 1991.
