Sumario: | Nothofagidites Erdtman ex Potonié (fossil pollen of Nothofagus Blume) was reviewed on the basis of types from South America, Australia and New Zealand. As a result several species were redescribed, and synonyms and wrong assignations were established on South American materials. In this paper a key to identify the thirteen South American species is given. They comprise one species (not endemic) in the "ancestral" group, five (three endemic) in the "fusca" group, five (all endemic) in the "brassii" group and two (both endemic) in the "menziesii" group. Proper combinations and assignations are also given, and the distribution of the species through the Paleogene is discussed. |
