Sumario:Historical fiction in Mendoza literature began in 1904 with Rosario Puebla de Godoy's novel La ciudad heroica. Over the years, it has incorporated texts that exemplify both the so-called “traditional historical novel” –that is, the archaeological reconstruction of a bygone era– and the so-called “new historical novel,” open to experimentation and the incorporation of new narrative techniques. This journey also includes works that exemplify forms close to historical narrative, such as the political novel and the testimonial, creating a varied corpus valued for its aesthetic quality. The term “fiction” is used because it includes not only novels but also short stories and radio plays, which predominantly textualize the San Martinian heroic deeds, the period of civil wars, and the political unrest of the first decades of the 20th century in Mendoza.
