Sumario:This article explores the network of actors, spaces and bureaucracies at Penitentiary Unit No. 15, drawing on an educational workshop—framed within a university outreach project—with young people enrolled in the Programa Integral de Asistencia y Tratamiento para Jóvenes Adultos (PIATJA). Specifically, we analyze the project's implementation in two specific settings: the Centro Pastoral Universitario (CPU) and the PIATJA hall. We also consider the profile of its target group, young people between the ages of 18 and 21, as they are represented within the prison as a «difficult population». Through ethnographic recording of locations, conversational situations, and conflictual events, we were able to explore the values, meanings, and differential uses of physical space, but also allowed us to identify the positions of these actors within the networks of prison social relations. Overall, we conclude that this educational experience, due to its particular characteristics, was marked by a high level of conflict. That is, the complexities and contradictions involved in outreach in a penitentiary institution were compounded by tensions between the youth and CPU leaders, and the deployment of greater control over the workshop.
